Braindogs at Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht/Netherlands 22nd of March’25

I am a big fan of Tom Waits. His songs, voice and very original music haunt me since I heard him for the very first time.. I think it was the album Swordfishtrombones ( what a title ..) that hooked me. But this album was a change in this music because he was making jazz and crooner music for many years before. Fortunately I got to see him in concert in Amsterdam in 2004. Today he is not touring and not recording anymore..he lives in California with his family, simple and quiet.

Coverbands are very popular over here in Holland. Sometimes good, very often bad. And who dares to cover Tom Waits? Well a guy called Ian Siegal with his band Braindogs do this. They are performing with an occasional band once every 3 or 4 years for one week or so. Ian Siegal is an artist in his own right, a well respected Blues guitarist from the UK. The other members coming from different bands from Hungary and Holland. I saw this band 4 years ago in Amsterdam and was impressed by their performance. Not just covering the songs of Tom Waits, but also own interpretations. And if there is one guy who can sing like Tom Waits it is definitely Ian Siegal!

Last week I went to 2 concerts of this band ( Eindhoven and Utrecht ) and it was a blast. This is the closest you can get to the music of Tom Waits. With a superbe setlist they made the audience very happy!
